In folklore, giants are beings of human-like appearance, but are at times prodigious in size and strength or bear an otherwise notable appearance. In Scotland, giants were often responsible for creating features in the landscape. They occupy hills, caves and mountains. Some live in the sea and others have strongholds in islands.
