The Story of Silly Jack and the Factor
Tony Robertson
Tony Robertson tells a darkly comic story of how a silly laddie called Jack and his mother outwitted the laird and avoided paying the rent to the factor. This was a favourite story of Tony’s when he was a boy; he learned it from from his relative Jeannie Robertson, a Traveller singer and storyteller. He tells us that the story originated in Aberdeenshire about 250 years ago, and took place not far from the Loch of Skene.
