The Story of the Laird o’ the Black Art
Betsy Whyte
Betsy Whyte tells the story of how a pupil of the black arts offended his master by showing off his magical powers. The Laird of the black arts was unimpressed with his cocky behaviour and taught him a lesson by first turning him into horse. From there a dance of enchantment and metamorphosis ensues, where ultimately the pupil learns his lesson.
The story was recorded in 1979 by the School of Scottish Studies. You can listen to the original tape on the online archive resource Tobar an Dualchais: Track ID 64049
