The Story of the Man Who Married a Mermaid
John MacDonald from Spean Bridge tells a traditional selkie legend in which a local man from Kessock, by Inverness, came across a sleeping mermaid while he was down by the shore. He dared to steal her skin, which meant she could not return to the sea.
The story was recorded in 1952 by the School of Scottish Studies. You can listen to the original tape on the online archive resource Tobar an Dualchais: Track 1345
