The Story of the Voices by the River
Martin MacIntyre
Martin McIntyre tells a tale from Dòmhall Mac Alasdair Mhòr (Donald Son of Big Alastair). Dòmhall shared this story with fieldworker Calum MacLean in 1960 while he was collecting for the School of Scottish Studies. The tale originates from South Uist, where Dòmhall spent his upbringing, and revolves around his father, Alasdair Mòr, a shepherd by trade. The river named in the story is Corrodale river.
Martin tells this story in both English and Gaelic, later revealing his own personal family connections.
