Catherine Dix
Berneray

Catherine Dix (Ceit an Tàilleir) from the Isle of Berneray was born in 1890. She was highly regarded in her community as a local bàird baile, or village poet. She had the gift of spontaneous poetry which she inherited from her father Archie, along with the ability to recall many songs and stories. Her wit, humour, and unique talent for composing and recalling hundreds of songs, stories and poems almost instantaneously give a fascinating insight into her own life and the life of a Gaelic-speaking community in the mid-20th century.
